Unlock PDF

Remove a password you know from a protected PDF

Decryption runs on our server because it needs qpdf — your file is processed in memory and never stored

Frequently asked questions

Can this open a PDF if I don't know the password?

No. You need the password. This tool removes a password you already have so you stop retyping it — it does not crack, guess or bypass PDF encryption, and we will not build anything that does.

Why does this tool use a server when your others don't?

Decrypting a PDF needs qpdf, a native library that cannot run in the browser. Your file is processed in memory on our server and never written to permanent storage. Every other page tool on NamahaPDF runs fully on your device.

What about owner passwords and permission restrictions?

PDFs can carry a user password (needed to open the file) and an owner password (restricting printing, copying or editing). Supplying the password you have removes the encryption along with those restrictions in the copy you download.

Can I put a password back on later?

Yes — use the Protect PDF tool to set a new password, with a choice of 40, 128 or 256-bit encryption.
