Frequently asked questions

Why does my PDF show the wrong title in the browser tab?

Readers show the metadata Title, not the filename, and many producers leave it as the original template name or a temporary file path. Setting the Title here fixes it everywhere.

I changed the title before and it came back. Why?

A PDF states its properties twice: in the Info dictionary and in an XMP packet, and most readers prefer XMP. Tools that write only the first leave a stale XMP copy that wins. By default we remove the stale packet so the two cannot disagree - untick "Keep the XMP metadata packet" only if you know you need it.

Does a title matter for accessibility?

Yes. PDF/UA and WCAG both require a meaningful document title, and it is one of the most common reasons a document fails an accessibility audit. Our Accessibility Checker reports it.

Can I clear everything instead?

Use Remove PDF Metadata, which strips all of it including the producer fingerprint.
