Frequently asked questions

What is actually in PDF metadata?

Usually more than people expect: your name or your organisation account name as the author, the exact software and version that made it, and creation and modification timestamps. Documents you share carry all of it.

Does this make the PDF anonymous?

No, and we will not claim it does. It clears document properties. It does not remove text, annotations, embedded files, JavaScript, or anything visible on the page - and the content itself can identify you. Use Redact PDF for content.

What is the "application-private page data" option?

Editors leave private blocks on pages they have touched. They are harmless to drop and are one more thing identifying the software used.

Will the file still open normally?

Yes. Metadata is descriptive, not structural - removing it changes nothing about how the document renders.
